Endoscopy is a non-surgical technique, where a Consultant passes a small telescope with a bright light into an area of the body to obtain a clear view of the surrounding tissue. It is also possible to painlessly take a sample of tissue during this examination which can be analysed in the hospital laboratory, leading to the speedy detection of any abnormalities.
