Cardiology service

Our cardiology service is headed by a Consultant Cardiologist. We offer acute inpatient management for cardiology referrals which must come from a General Practioner.

Cardiology Secretary can be contacted between 08:00 and 16:30 on 066 714 9825

Outpatients clinic appointments require referrals from a G.P or Consultant. Please bring details of  medical insurance and any medications currently prescribed prior to attending for appointment.
Out patient visits are not generally covered by private health insurance.

Out patient cardiology investigation services

All outpatient investigations are managed in the Cardiology Investigations unit.

Tests offered include:-

  • Cardiac stress testing
  • Cardiac Echocardiography(Consultant referral only)
  • Twenty four hour Holter ECG monitoring
  • Blood pressure monitoring.
  • Electrocardiographs.

Cardiology Investigations Unit is open Monday to Thursday 09:00 till
17:00 Friday 09:00 to 16:00 hours.

Angiography service.

Patients requiring angiography and or angioplasty have their procedure carried out by the consultant cardiologist from this hospital as part of our Monday slot in the cardiac cathertisation department in Bon Secours Hospital Cork.

Patients will be offered a place on the Pre Angiography clinic which is headed by cardiology specialist nurse on alternate Wednesdays. Bloods, ECG and current health status is reviewed at the clinic and education on the procedure of angiography and expected outcomes is provided.

Risk Factor Clinic

In recognition that many people have risk factors which place them at greater risk of cardiac disease, a risk factor clinic headed by the cardiology nurse specialist runs on alternate Wednesdays. Patients with established coronary artery disease, or felt to be at high risk for same, can self refer or be refired by their G.P or Consultant to the clinic.

Resuscitation Training

Bon Secours Tralee is a training site of the Irish Heart Foundation. Training in basic life support for family and friends, heartsaver AED and Healthcare provider level is offered.

Advanced cardiac Life Support courses are offered twice a year for healthcare professionals involved in front line acute care.
