Radiology is a very widely used investigative procedure. The Radiology Suite Facilities include up to date conventional radiography, specialised equipment for fluoroscopy and tomography, full mammographic facilities and ultrasound scanning equipment. Portable X-Ray machines are used in the Intensive Care Unit and Theatres.
No waiting lists!
The outpatient service is available from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., Monday to Friday. There is no waiting list for routine outpatient procedures. You will be immediately accepted when referred by your family doctor; all you require is a letter of referral. A full out of hours emergency service is available on a 24 hour basis.
Available facilities:
As well as conventional radiography we also offer specialised urological radiology such as retrograde pyleograms, venography, sialography, percutaneous cholangiograms and cholecystograms.
Various ultrasound investigations are carried out including the assesment of pregnancy. There is also a Doppler facility on the ultrasound machine which allows investigations of abnormalities in the blood vessels.
Mammography is available for screening breast disease. Using the most modern equipment the examination is completed within 30 minutes.
MRI
Bon Secours Hospital Tralee has recently provided an MRI scanner to add to our extensive radiological services. This facility is also available on an outpatient basis and is covered by most insurers including the VHI. The MRI is considered to be extremely useful for the diagnosis of sports injuries.
Reports
The consultant Radiologists and Radiographers are complemented by state of the art equipment and results are available within 24 hours.
