The Ophthalmology Department looks after all surgical
treatments of the eye for both adults and children. These
services are supplied though our customised, modern, ophthalmic
surgery theatre.
Those undergoing procedures will be given either a local
or general anaesthetic depending on their needs and medical
indications. Our most common procedures include cataract
extractions, lens transplantations, strabismus surgery for
children and glaucoma treatments.
Our large out-patient and minor operative procedures service
provides rapid treatment for tear duct and lid problems.
In addition computerised visual field analysis is available
for those with glaucoma.
There is a consultative facility available to all in-patients
at the hospital. This allows them to undergo an ophthalmic
review during their stay. This is carried out by one of our
three Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons.
