What happens ?
No preparation is needed. You will be asked to lie on the
examination table. Two areas of the body, the lower spine
and one hip are measured and the wholetest will take 15 to
20 minutes.
The measurements are made with a mechanicalarm, which moves slowly above
the body and are checked by the technician/nurse.You will feel nothing
and can leave the room when the test is over.
A consultantradiologist will evaluate the test and discuss recommendations
with your doctor.
What happens afterwards ?
There are no long-term effects and you can eat and drink normally and
engage in normal physical activity. The test which uses just a one-tenth
of the normal chest x-ray dose, is safe, free of complications and can
be repeated many times without risk.
