St Bernadettes oncology ward comprises a twenty
bed inpatient and six bed out-patient facility, designed
to meet the needs and deliver treatment to any patient
requiring chemotherapy or palliative care.
The consultant oncologist is based on the ward and the hospital
offers a complete oncology/haematology service, supported
by surgeons, physicians and radiologists.
The ward is staffed by specialized and dedicated nurses who
are greatly experienced in nursing people with cancer. There
is also a team of specialist nurses who provide advice and
support to people with specific problems.

There is a patient led support group ‘Cunamh’,
and they provide support, information and assistance to
patients and families.
The ward itself is totally air conditioned and the system
is designed to minimise the risk of infections to vulnerable
patients.
The service is designed so that a person with a diagnosis
of cancer can receive all of their care, throughout the
course of their illness, under the care of the ward.
