The Operating Department is located on the fifth floor of the hospital adjacent to the Intensive Care Unit

The department within the Bon Secours Hospital comprises:

Four operating theatres A seven day post Anaesthesia Care Unit (RecoveryArea) Theatre Sterile Supplies Unit.

The Operating Department offers a comprehensive range of surgical specialties (including Paediatrics):

Orthopaedics elective ENT Urology Dental Gynaecology Thoracic Plastic 24 hour Emergency Surgery General and Minimal Invasive Surgery

Approximately 9,000 operations are carried out annually. The essence of perioperative nursing within the department is to provide a safe and caring environment for all patients. Operating Department nurses have the specialised skills and technical knowledge to implement and plan programmes of patient care. Skilled perioperative nursing assistance is provided to the patient, Consultant Surgeons and Anaesthetists as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
