The Diagnostic Imaging Centre is a rapidly expanding
facility offering comprehensive, prompt, high quality imaging
services. This includes state-of-the-art Flouroscopy, Dexa,
CAT and Ultrasound scanning, together with plain film radiography.
Bone Densitometry
The provision of Dexa scanning is a recent addition to the range of services
available. Bone densitometry (Dexa scanning) is a method of measuring
the density of bones. Normally used as a form of screening, using low-dose
x-rays, this test is safe, painless and accurate. It is free from complications
and can be repeated many times. It is used extensively in the assessment
of those at risk for osteoporosis. The entire test takes approximately
15 minutes.
Specialised Procedures
The range of fluoroscopy services available has been expanded following
the installation of a state-of-the-art C-arm Unit. This unit facilitates
faster examination times coupled with minimal radiation doses, both
leading to an enhanced patient service. Available techniques include
the investigation of stomach, small and large bowel disorders using
double contrast barium meals and enemas. There is widespread use of
radiology in the investigation of the urinary tract both in children
and adults by the use of intravenous urography and micturating cystography.
Other specialised investigations include retrograde pyelography, venography,
sialography, percutaneous cholangiography, dacrocystography
