Pathology
The Pathology Department performs numerous
clinical laboratory tests and these results are
intended to identify and monitor diseases and their
treatment. The Pathology Department provides a
quality, efficient service for both in-patients
and out-patients. All departments participate in
internationally accredited external quality control
schemes. The departments are equipped with state
of the art, modern analysers and equipment. Phlebotomy
services are available Monday to Friday from 10.00
am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm. The pathology
department has an information management system
and results of tests are available on-line in the
wards once they have been clinically validated
by the pathology staff.
Biochemistry
This department provides a quantitative analysis of biological fluids
such as blood and urine for specific chemical constituents to support
the clinician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Blood transfusion
If a patient requires a blood product this department ensures the product
is safe and appropriate for the particular patient. An autologous program
is available to a patient who is undergoing elective surgery. The patient
can donate blood in advance of the operation to ensure he/she will secure
his/her own blood.
