This department examines blood cells to identify diseases such as anaemia,
infections or leukaemia's. They also investigate blood clotting disorders
and monitor warfarin therapy.
There is one Consultant Histopathologist, Dr. Mary Leamy. Histopathology
examines all routine histopathological and cytopathological specimens.
Specialist diagnostic tests including immunohistochemistry stains, and
immunofluorescent studies, can be arranged in larger laboratories.
The part-time Consultant Microbiologist is Dr. Olive Murphy from Bon
Secours Hospital, Cork. This department provides a comprehensive array
of tests for diagnosing infectious diseases and subsequent antibiotic
testing there by providing important clinical advice.
