State of the art facilities include General and Ultra
Clean Ventilation Theatres and an Endoscopy Suite. Fibreoptic,
bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, gastroscopy, laryngoscopy, cystoscopy
and choledochoscopy procedures are available.
Our consultant surgeons offer direct access to general practitioners for
endoscopic investigations, such as gastroscopy. Access to a full range
of minor surgical procedures on an outpatient basis will be facilitated
within seven days of referral.
The essence of perioperative nursing within the department is to provide
a safe and caring environment for all patients. Operating Department nurses
have the specialised skills and technical knowledge to implement and plan
programmes of patient care. Skilled perioperative nursing assistance is
provided to the patient. Consultant Surgeons and Anaesthetists are part
of the multi-disciplinary team.
The Operating Department is further supported by the assistance of theatre
assistants, TSSU Operatives and household staff.
