Please note that the following services are not currently provided at the Bon Secours Hospital, Galway:
Your admission to the hospital is arranged by your Consultant. We advise that you clarify the following with your consultants secretary prior to admission:
Fasting means taking nothing by mouth including water. Your procedure may have to be cancelled if you are not fasting.
Please inform admission staff if you have attended the hospital previously, either as an inpatient or on an outpatient basis. This will avoid duplication of records.
Your expected discharge date will have discussed with you by your consultant. We request your co- operation in vacating your room between 9am and 11am on the day of discharge. This gives us an opportunity to prepare for patients awaiting admission.
Visiting hours are flexible and generally visitors are welcome between 11.00am and 9.00pm.
Children may visit if accompanied by an adult.
Visitors may avail of our restaurant facilities from 10am to 6.30pm.
On occasion due to widespread infection within the community, it may be necessary to impose visiting restrictions.
Alcohol rubs are available at the entrance to all departments and visitors are asked to use same on entering and leaving,
If you are taking medications, please bring an up to date list from your chemist or your G.P. If this is not possible, we ask that you bring your medications (in their original packaging) to ensure there is no interruption in your medication regime.
Patients are advised to bring in well fitting slippers/shoes, not the slip on or backless variety. This is particularly important for patients undergoing lower limb surgery or those at risk of falls. We also advise that dressing gowns and night dresses should be no longer than mid-calf to avoid tripping when using crutches.
In the event of fire, follow the instructions of our staff.
Smoking is not permitted in the hospital.
We recommend that you do not bring money, jewellery or any other possessions you consider valuable with you as the hospital cannot be responsible for the loss or damage of property brought onto the hospital site.
If your child is for admission, please bring along a favourite soft toy or a cherished article as this can be of comfort to them.
Camp beds are supplied for parents/guardians wishing to stay with their children.

INSURANCES AND OTHER PAYMENT OPTIONS.
The hospital is recognized by all major health insurers which covers all or most of your hospital account. In most cases, we offer direct settlement with your insurer.
The main schemes covered are:
If you have any queries or concerns with regard to your cover or if your scheme is not listed, please contact us.
Remember, it is always good practice to check your insurer’s benefits and exclusion clauses.
In most cases, the hospital will be in a position to quote a fixed price for treatment of non insured patients.
This will be based on the information forwarded by your consultant on treatment required, anticipated length of stay, ancillary services etc.
You will be asked for payment on or before admission.
You may be entitled to tax relief as a self-pay patient and our staff will be pleased to provide further details.
The hospital cares for patients under the Government National Treatment Purchase Fund for patients on public hospital waiting lists.

ADMISSION/DISCHARGE
Your admission to the hospital is arranged by your Consultant. We advise that you clarify the following with your consultants secretary prior to admission:

Has the correct accommodation been booked?
The hospital allocates accommodation in line with booking details from the consultants secretary. Requested accommodation may not always be available.
M.R.S.A.
If you have a broken skin area, are residing in a nursing home or are a known M.R.S.A carrier, please inform the consultant’s secretary or the hospital prior to admission as this may impact on your procedure.

INPATIENT FACILITIES
- Each room has a television with all services from the hospital Chapel and cable channels available
- A telephone is provided at your bedside and all calls are charged to your account.
- A nurse call system is installed in your room and can be activated from your bedside or in bathroom areas
- Newspapers and magazines of your choice are supplied on request and charged to your account.
- Incoming mail will be delivered daily to your room.
