28 April, 2009

STATEMENT BY BON SECOURS CORK

The management of Bon Secours Hospital, Cork is delighted with the decision by An Bord Pleanala to grant permission for a €100 million expansion at its College Road site.

The development plans include the construction of a multi-storey car park, a new five-storey wing with an additional eighty private rooms, two new orthopaedic theatres, which represents a significant expansion of the hospital’s orthopaedic facilities, a new Cancer Centre with radiotherapy and a PET/CT scanner, and expanded day ward and inpatient facilities.

The hospital currently has well-established cancer services incorporating multi-disciplinary teams in medical oncology, surgery, radiology and pathology. The addition of radiotherapy services will mean the Bon Secours Cancer Centre will provide a full range of state-of-the-art cancer services for its patients.

Hospital management expects that a detailed design and tendering process will take place over the next three or four months and that the construction phase of the development will take approximately two years.
